Year Two,
Wood Industry Specialty Core
Year two contains curriculum for specialized core competencies
necessary for entering occupations in the Wood Industry: secondary
manufacturing industry and construction carpentry. The competencies
identified for the Wood Industry, year two, bridge the first year
core competencies with the specialty competencies in the third year.
Year two builds on the year one core competencies and prepares
students for the rigorous third year competencies leading to
entry-level positions in the Wood Industries or related
postsecondary experiences, which may include advanced credit
opportunities.
Curriculum is in the form of planning guides that have competencies
in the following areas:
- Safety
- Hand tools
- Power tools
- Wood species characteristics
- Workplace skills
- Applied math
- Applied communications
- Applied technology
- Drafting
- Manufacturing machines
- Cognitive framing skills
- Wall and partition framing skills
- Cabinetmaking in construction
