Year Two, Forest Industry Specialty Core
Year two contains curriculum for specialized core competencies
necessary for entering occupations in all sectors of the Forest
Industry (forest management, timber harvesting and primary wood
industries). The competencies identified for the Forest Industry,
year two, bridge the first year core competencies with the specialty
competencies in the third year. Year two builds on the year one core
competencies and prepares students for the rigorous third year
competencies leading to entry-level positions in the Forest
Industries or related postsecondary experiences, which may include
advanced credit opportunities.
The curriculum is in the form of planning guides that include
competencies in the following areas:
- Power tools
- Lumber scaling and grading
- Tree identification
- Basic technical skills
- Workplace skills
- Applied math
- Applied communications
- Applied technology
- Forest mensuration (measurement)
