Pennsylvania College of Technology Advanced Credit is available at Pennsylvania College of Technology
for qualified students. The following describes the process.
- When students apply for admission to the college, they submit
their high school transcripts as part of the procedure.
- The Admissions Office examines the transcripts and if a course is
listed that is related to one of the related Penn College majors
(forestry, construction technology, or cabinetmaking and millwork),
a list of competencies covered in the first year of the college
major is sent to the student's high school instructor in the spring.
- The high school instructor evaluates the student for the
competencies listed, makes their own recommendation on the granting
of advanced placement to the student and sends the list back to the
College.
- The respective Dean in consultation with college faculty makes a
decision on granting advanced credit by reviewing the teacher's
evaluation of competencies and their recommendation.
- If advanced credit is awarded, the student receives college
credit for the courses. The total number of hours the student needs
to take to graduate is reduced.
To assist students in preparing for this evaluation of competencies,
some self-instructional curriculum modules have been developed that
a high school teacher can use in their classroom. These modules use
college texts and require minimal time on the part of the teacher.
Self-instructional modules have been developed for the following
Forest Industry related first and third semester courses in the
Forest Technology major at Penn College:
FOR 111 Dendrology (tree identification) - 3 credits
FOR 113 Forest Mensuration (forest measurement) - 3 credits
FOR 111 Forest Botany - 3 credits
FOR 252 Timber Harvesting and Equipment - 1 credit (theory part
only)
Self-instructional modules have also been developed for the
following Wood Industry related, second semester courses in the
cabinetry and construction related majors at
Penn College:
BCT 119 Blueprint Reading and Specifications - 3 credits
ACH 102 Basic Architectural Drafting - 3 credits
If you are interested in obtaining copies of any of these
self-instructional modules, contact Glenn Spoerke, Curriculum
